Flash-setting - Topcon NW400
This guide is no longer necessary, but is kept for archiving. Please contact us if you think it’s necessary to reduce your flash on your Topcon device.
Why use an alternate flash setting?
The RetinaLyze Glaucoma algorithm relies on the colours in the fundus photo to detect damage to the optic disc, which indicates signs of glaucoma.
In some cases, the camera needs to be calibrated to allow the full spectrum of colours to be present in the fundus photo. This can be achieved quickly on the Topcon NW400 by switching to a 30° degree capture mode with a lower flash setting. The RetinaLyze web application will give you a warning, when you need to use the mode:
"The image is too saturated to perform the analysis, please capture a new photo with a lower flash setting."
How to use the alternate flash setting
Click on Advance on the device screen
Select 30° degree mode and capture the image
Remember to switch back to 45° degree mode when you're done
Setup the flash setting (for Tech. supporters)
Press “SETUP” in the top right corner on the device screen
Press “Flash Level Adjust” on the menu to the left
Press the number next to “30° Mask” (usually -1), and choose the option "-4" in the list and click OK in the top left corner.
